What Is Conversion Tracking?
Conversion tracking records when a visitor completes a valuable action on your website — submitting a contact form, calling your business, making a purchase, or downloading a file.
Step 1: Define Your Conversions
Common conversions for service businesses:
- Contact form submissions
- Phone calls (click-to-call)
- Email link clicks
- Quote request forms
- Chat interactions
Step 2: Set Up in Google Analytics 4
- Go to Admin → Events in GA4
- Create new events for your key actions (e.g.,
form_submit) - Mark them as Conversions under Admin → Conversions
Step 3: Set Up in Google Ads
- Go to Tools → Conversions
- Click + New conversion action → Website
- Use Google Tag or GTM to install the conversion tag
Step 4: Test
Submit a test form and verify the conversion fires in your GA4 Realtime report and Google Ads conversion tracking status.
